Our Academic Resource Team and Learning Coaches assist students in taking full advantage of every learning experience. Collaborating with parents, teachers, and students to develop appropriate instructional strategies, our teachers monitor students’ progress and provide various levels of support as available.

Lower School Learning Coach Model

With the most current, research-based resources and a wealth of experience and expertise, Mount Vernon Learning Coaches enhance the Lower School experience through individual and small-group student learning, curriculum enrichment, and a coaching model that provides teachers and students with innovative learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom.

Learning Coaches at Mount Vernon play an important role in enhancing the learning and growth in Kindergarten through grade 5 students. All with advanced degrees and specialized training, learning coaches support students, teachers and families, looking at the whole student and the needs of each individual learner. They collaborate with our classroom teachers to create, revise, or implement new curriculum, technologies, or teaching practices as new research and best practices emerge.

Learning Coaches work with our faculty to assess the skills and needs of each child at Mount Vernon, determining which students need further challenge and extension and which students would benefit from additional exposures to certain academic skills. Whether for individual students, small groups or whole-class learning, Learning Coaches offer rigorous learning extensions and remediation opportunities for all students at Mount Vernon, ensuring a rich environment of experiential learning that simply cannot be found anywhere else.

Middle School Academic Resource Services

Learning Coaches at Mount Vernon play an important role in enhancing the learning and growth of all learners. They collaborate with our classroom teachers to create, revise, or implement new curriculum, technologies, or teaching practices as new research and best practices emerge. Our learning coaches offer guidance for students in need of academic support and enrichment throughout the year including observation, collaboration with students, teachers and parents, recommendations for classroom strategies and accommodations, and small group instruction. Referrals to tutors and other outside providers both on and off campus are an added benefit the team provides. Serving as educational consultants to all Mount Vernon students, teachers, and parents, our learning coaches facilitate appropriate accommodations for students sharing outside psychological-educational evaluations with the School and request standardized testing accommodations. Additionally, the learning coaches encourage student development of executive functioning skills and assist teachers with the facilitation of specific strategies in their classes. Individual teacher tutorials are also scheduled before and after school. Upon teacher or parent request, students may schedule a time to meet individually with a learning coach to improve their study skills, organization, and overall performance.

Upper School Academic Resource Services

Mount Vernon’s learning coaches offer academic support including observation, collaboration with students, teachers and parents, and recommendations for classroom strategies and accommodations.
