Lower School Learning Coach Model

With the most current, research-based resources and a wealth of experience and expertise, Mount Vernon Learning Coaches enhance the Lower School experience through individual and small-group student learning, curriculum enrichment, and a coaching model that provides teachers and students with innovative learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom.

Learning Coaches at Mount Vernon play an important role in enhancing the learning and growth in Kindergarten through grade 5 students. All with advanced degrees and specialized training, learning coaches support students, teachers and families, looking at the whole student and the needs of each individual learner. They collaborate with our classroom teachers to create, revise, or implement new curriculum, technologies, or teaching practices as new research and best practices emerge.

Learning Coaches work with our faculty to assess the skills and needs of each child at Mount Vernon, determining which students need further challenge and extension and which students would benefit from additional exposures to certain academic skills. Whether for individual students, small groups or whole-class learning, Learning Coaches offer rigorous learning extensions and remediation opportunities for all students at Mount Vernon, ensuring a rich environment of experiential learning that simply cannot be found anywhere else.
