Autumn Burnette Sinks Milestone 2000th Point

Since the eighth grade, Autumn Burnette has been playing Varsity Basketball – racking up multiple points whenever she stepped onto the court. At last night’s game, she was recognized for sinking her milestone 2,000th point. In fact, she’s up to 2013, now.
In response to her recognition, Autumn says, “I knew I had over 1000 points, but since I wasn’t counting, I didn’t know exactly how many. It makes me feel good that I have reached this milestone. I think I’ve made my teammates proud, Mom proud and the School proud.” Yes, Autumn, you have.
Recently, Autumn was highlighted in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for her exceptional play.
   
Autumn Burnette is special. A standout athlete. A great student. A young woman of high character and a natural leader both on and off the court. Burnette has what coaches refer to as the “IT” factor. An uncanny ability to come up big in pressure situations. A personality that team members gravitate toward. She is the type of player opponents fear and teammates love.
Autumn’s assault on the MVPS record books started early, as 8th grader. Over the years, she has set the bar so high, that when she pours in 25 points and grabs 10 rebounds in a game, we think nothing of it. When she was named Region Player of the Year in Volleyball, we congratulated her, knowing all the while that she would surely do something even more sensational to impress us in the near future. She has.
On Tuesday, February 4 at approximately 7:45 p.m., Burnette, only a junior, scored her 2,000th point against Landmark Christian. This is not a misprint. This is a feat achieved by only a handful of highly skilled athletes and still even fewer juniors. Athletic exploits such as these get you noticed. Autumn was recently recognized by 11 Alive Sports as “One To Watch,” and is being recruited to play both basketball and volleyball on the Collegiate level.
As impressive as these honors and achievements are, anyone who knows Autumn will tell you that she is an even more impressive person than she is an athlete. Currently holding a 4.0GPA, she is a person of exceptionally high character. It is hard not not to be impressed by her. Always humble and the hardest of workers, Burnette is a pleasure to be around. Young girls look up to her and her peers highly respect her. Autumn has achieved lofty success because she works tirelessly at her craft. She is special. Everyone in the MVPS community has known it for a long time. It was only a matter of time until the rest of the world found out.
