Recently students and faculty enthusiastically piled into the media center to listen to former Braves player Jeff Francoeur speak to the Upper School Business and Entrepreneurship Club. As a recent signee with the Cleveland Indians, Francoeur shared his views on the business of baseball. He emphasized topics like television contract deals, team payrolls, the impact of team ownership, as well as the analysis of statistics (as evidenced in the film Moneyball).

Sharing his experience of playing in the major leagues, he also talked about growing up in Atlanta. He discussed the emotions he felt playing for the Braves after being a fan of the team his entire childhood. Francoeur talked about the new Braves stadium being built in Cobb County and the politics of that decision.

Students asked insightful questions, inquiring about the variety of business aspects of the sport, like the draft process and the politics of being traded to another team. Overall the students and faculty enjoyed spending time with Jeff Francoeur and were excited to meet such a positive, professional athlete.
