Known to Bulldog fans as a player with a record-setting career at Georgia, Greene guided the team to a Sugar Bowl victory in 2002. That same season he led the Dawgs to their first SEC Championship since 1982. He was named SEC Offensive Rookie of the Year after the 2001 season, and was the 2002 Offensive Player of the Year for The Southeastern Conference. In 2004, Greene made 214 consecutive pass attempts without an interception. He finished his college career as the SEC all-time career leader in yards gained, with 11,270.
Later, Greene was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 2005 NFL draft and went on to play for the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts.
As impressive as his athletic accomplishments are, however, the list pales in comparison to the way Greene lives a Godly life of impact. He shared with the men eight personal principles to live a balanced Christian man’s life:
Eight Principles:

  1. Pray Regularly and Abide in Christ
  2. Be Intentional
  3. Lead Yourself Well/Protect Your Character
  4. Be a Servant Leader
  5. Live with the end in mind
  6. Balance
  7. Be Consistent
  8. Continually Learn

In a Q&A format, Greene offered his thoughts on former UGA Coach Mark Richt’s departure, deflate-gate involving his former teammate Tom Brady, his short-lived NFL career, and life lessons learned along the way.
Greene is connected to Mount Vernon through Robert Shuford, a colleague of his and also a parent of an alum (Anna ’15). Currently an insurance broker, the man who used to play between the hedges in Athens is now married and a father to two boys. He now has more in common with the Men of Mount Vernon, than ever.

This event, hosted by MV fathers John Douglas and Russell Todd, was the first of several opportunities for men to connect with other members of the Mount Vernon community. The primary objective of the Men of Mount Vernon is to build fellowship and camaraderie, unite men from the Upper and Lower Schools, and support the School’s mission.
Their goal is to involve as many men as possible as they seek to:

  • Create a sense of community among families in a diverse school population.
  • Stimulate parents’ participation in the scholastic, spiritual, athletic and extracurricular activities of their children.
  • Foster interaction and cooperation between parents and the faculty/administration.
  • Become the best leaders, role models and fathers that God has chosen us to be.
