Mount Vernon Victorious Over North Springs & Mount Pisgah

Last week Mount Vernon’s girls varsity volleyball team went head to head with North Springs and Mount Pisgah, and in both matches the Mustangs claimed victory.
Against North Springs, the first game of three, consisted of a constant back and forth of points. The Spartans had tough digs and saves, but they were unable to finish the points. Katie Peddle, a freshman, outside hitter for the Mustangs had unstoppable kills throughout the match. Maddy Estenson, another Mount Vernon freshman, outside hitter and MVPS senior Grace McCarthy, a middle hitter followed Peddle’s domination with their kills, too. Both teams had a few mistakes and a majority of long rallies, but the Mustangs pulled out a victory of 25-23 with a serve from right side hitter, senior, Bailey Lusk.
The second game was rough at first for the Mustangs. Mental lapses and mistakes from MVPS gave scoring opportunities to the Spartans. North Springs took the lead 18-9, but Katie Peddle made a crucial change in the game with her powerful kill. The comeback started and could not be stopped. Peddle and junior libero, Zoe Stupek, then went on a streak of tricky serves and aces, while freshman, middle hitter, Anjali Singh, had precision with her tips over the net. Although the Mustangs started to make a comeback, the Spartans pulled out a win at the end of the second game.
In the final game, the Mustangs started strong. Katie Peddle began with a 5-0 run with her skilled serves. Anjali Singh (MH) continued her placement with tips and kills, while Zoe Stupek kept the ball alive with her diving digs. Stupek also pushed the score higher and higher for the Mount Vernon Mustangs with her precise serves. The Spartans could not handle the pain the Mustangs brought to them. After a long rally, Grace McCarthy killed the ball to finish the game 15-4 and finish the match 2-1.
