Mustang Varsity Football has a great deal to be proud of after completing theirΒ 2016 season. For the first time in Mount Vernon’s history, the Varsity football team ended with a winning record ofΒ 6-5.

On top of that, for their region — 5A — the league’s coaches voted Coach Wayne Dabbs as Coach of the Year and Alan Harris as Defensive Player of the Year, owning two of the five coveted yearly awards. Additionally, eight players were selected to be on the All-Region Team. Catch the full lineup in the AJC.

From Coach Dabbs, “This is a huge honor for each of these young men!Β For us to participate in one of the toughest regions in the state and for these guys to be recognized is unbelievable. TheirΒ hard workΒ led to a historic season that we had and the honor of being placed on this special team.Β We know that it was a complete group and team effort but we are proud that the other coaches in the Region recognized these young men for the All-Region Team.Β I hope we can get even more on the All-Region Team next year. We are counting on a lot of guys next year to be a part of this great honor.”
