Sophomores Help Childhood Friend to Pay it Forward

Mount Vernon sophomores Jack Mullen and Parker Corley are stepping up in a big way to combat childhood cancer. They’re doing it support their childhood friend, Chip Mandren of Chip’s Nation, who was diagnosed with Stage IV brain cancer six years ago. Mandren is known to many in the Atlanta area for turning his diagnosis into a remarkable effort of paying it forward.

After beating cancer, Mandren and his family formed Chip’s Nation, a registered 501c3 foundation established to raise money in support of children in their battle against cancer and life after cancer. One of the ways Jack and Parker are supporting their friend is by encouraging others to attend Chip Nation’s Hunting, Fishing, Praying for a Cure. This event is completely coordinated by local teens from 15 local schools who are all working to gather donations, sponsors and sell tickets to the January 28th event.
Jack and Parker were selected to represent Mount Vernon. “I played baseball with his brothers at Morgan Falls, when Chip was diagnosed. Since then, I have been inspired by Chip’s strength. I love the family, and it feels good to support them,” shares Jack.
“I went to preschool with Chip’s brother, and when I was asked, I wanted to help the family. Through their family we’re helping other families,” says Parker.
So far ticket sales are far exceeding expectations, and Chip’s Nation hopes to raise $50,000.
