Students to Wear Pink in Support of Breast Cancer

Oct 15, 2013 | Highlights

Mount Vernon Upper School students will have the opportunity to take part in raising awareness for Breast Cancer on Friday, October 11.
For our Friday Spirit Day, students are encouraged to wear jeans or a uniform bottom, a pink shirt, and accessories (excluding hats) in order to support the women and families affected by Breast Cancer.
Breast Cancer is the most common type of cancer found in women no matter their race or ethnicity. According to the National Cancer Institute, β€œOne out of every eight women born today will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some time during her life.” For this reason, October has been dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness.
In recent years, athletes have added pink to their uniforms to spread awareness. Pink can been seen as accessories on football players and cheerleaders alike. Varsity football cheerleader, Megan Taylor says, β€œIts nice to see all the athletes have something in common and come together to support a cause.”
Don’t forget to wear your pink on Friday!
