When Dr. Colley began her journey to join Mount Vernon, she was ecstatic to become a part of the community because of the opportunities she knew MVPS provides. When asked what her favorite part of MVPS was Dr. Colley responded with, β€œThe people. I love my students, especially talking to them and hearing their stories. Also my colleagues are just amazing–the administration has assembled such a great team, and they work so hard for their students.” She also mentioned that her β€œlong-term goal is to be the Suzanne Couvillion of the Upper School. Β When people call me a Grammar Nazi, I take it as a compliment. β€œ

As the swim coach, Dr. Colley is clearly a very motivated person. She wakes up at 4:30 in the morning just to be with students she loves. β€œI love being able to joke around with them and build relationships that last beyond high school,” mentioned Dr. Colley. She also wanted to credit the Swim-Dive team for her Snapchat addiction!
While Dr. Colley loves telling her students stories, there may be some things that students don’t know about her. Her favorite color is blue. Maybe there is a connection to water and her favorite color! She has also traveled across the vast area of blue ocean water to places like France, Italy, England, Germany, and Prague.
Dr. Rae Carlton Colley has delivered papers at the Modern Language Association conference and the Southern Writers Symposium, and she has published essays on Katherine Anne Porter, Tillie Olsen, and Judith Ortiz Cofer, among others. She enjoys playing tennis, reading, watching the Georgia Bulldogs, and being a Dance Mom. Follow Rae on Twitter @DrCoachColley.
