The 2013/2014 Boys Varsity Basketball season is off to a great start. The team began the year by defeating North Atlanta in a scrimmage and has carried that momentum to wins against Providence Christian and 4A and 5A schools Chamblee and Riverwood.
Against a tough, athletic Chamblee squad, the boys rallied around the red hot shooting of Jared Harper (25 points) and won 70-66. The next opponent was Riverwood, a team that had defeated the Mustangs last year during their first ever GHSA meeting. The team was determined not to let that happen again and came out strong, outscoring their opponent 18-12 in the first quarter. The boys continued their strong play in the second quarter, outscoring Riverwood 23-11 to take a 41-26 halftime lead. The Mustangs kept up their solid effort throughout the game and registered their 2nd win of the season. They were led by Jared Harper and Eric Sparks (16 points each) and Keon Douglas and Drew Anderson (10 points each).
Next up was Providence Christian. The Mustangs came out strong and played excellent team basketball on both ends of the court, cruising to a big win. The boys look to stay hot on Tuesday, 12/10 when they play at Strong Rock.
