It’s an exciting time to be part of the Mount Vernon Lacrosse program. Five years ago, with the hard work and dedication of Mount Vernon parent and former all-American defenseman Bill Palmer, the program began as a Middle School club sport. The following year, the Mustangs fielded their first official Middle School team followed two years later by an official Junior Varsity team and now in 2018, Mount Vernon Lacrosse is fielding it’s first ever GHSA Varsity team.

Excitement is high around the program as the core of this team has been playing together at Mount Vernon since sixth and seventh grades. Over the past four years, these kids have made great strides individually, and the results are beginning to show at the team level. With a daunting schedule that includes last year‘s state champions and runners up, the wins won’t come easily for this first year program. However, with improvement every week, the team is playing hard and growing closer as a group.

Players James Crandall, Maverick Farrah, Spencer Lucas, Jack Palmer, Jack Riekena, Kolby Rothbard, Skyler Stefaniak-Earley, Brady Vincent, and Bennett Williams have been with the program since its inception — and now, with a full roster of 26 players — this team is  on the verge of great things.

Parent Susan Lucas shares, “Building a sports program from the ground up takes a tremendous amount of hard work and perseverance. Over the past five years, I have had the privilege to witness the determination and resolve that these players exhibit as they moved from club program through to this year’s inaugural Varsity season. They realize that what they are doing is bigger than a few seasons of lacrosse. They are the legacy builders of the school’s lacrosse program. And they are doing it with great character.  It is truly inspiring to me.”

Here is the Lacrosse schedule. Go Mustangs!
