Class of 2027 Cade Dehem has big dreams for his future. When asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he responded, “I want to be a lot of things.”

From rapping to being a “YouTuber”, Cade is destined to entertain, and Mount Vernon is helping him achieve those dreams.

Cade’s first time in front of a crowd was in Grade 5 when he performed Circles by Post Malone in the Lower School Talent Show. He also showcased his dance moves later in the production with little sister Callie (Grade 1).

When it comes to rapping, Cade loves listening Migos, NF, Post Malone, and Anderson .Paak, but in the summer of 2020 he discovered new inspiration in the form of rap-style musical Hamilton.

Cade considers himself “obsessed” with Hamilton, even dressing as Alexander Hamilton for Halloween alongside his siblings, Callie and Benjamin, who also dressed as characters from the broadway show. His favorite song is My Shot and Aaron Burr is his favorite character.

At the beginning of the 2020-21 school year, Cade was presented with the opportunity to work 1-on-1 with Director of Visual and Performing Arts Matt Neylon to advance his rap skills. After spending time perfecting My Shot from Hamilton, Cade was introduced to Mount Vernon Director of Music Industry & Media Vann Thornton who helped Cade record his track in the Upper School recording studio.

Taking it one step further, Cade worked with Mr. Thornton to record a music video that was featured at the beginning of Middle and Upper School Chapel services, highlighting his talent across seven total grades.

While Cade enjoys doing covers of rap songs he likes, he also dabbles in writing his own raps. What’s up next for Cade? He’s currently working on a track called Back to Back about the Grade 6 basketball team winning two consecutive championships.

Stay tuned for more music from Cade. It’s safe to say we can expect big things from this Mustang.
