Curiosity & Passion Drive Learning

Learning Strategy

Learning Strategies is a year-long, daily course providing students the necessary skills in time management, note-taking, organization, and project planning and management to balance rigorous academics with an open, choice-driven humanities program.

When students explore their questions, passions, and interests they make
connections that expand their learning and personal development.

Arts & Design

All students progress through a three-year experience in visual arts, performing arts, and maker, design, and engineering so that they advance from Middle School with not only an introduction to many aspects of arts and design, but also a taste of the many opportunities they might have in Upper School.

Mind & Body

Each and every day, Middle Schoolers participate in class sessions devoted to mind and body. One session focuses on physical education, where students have an opportunity for daily movement in a more structured, skills-based, yet fun environment. Another session focuses on learning strategies, where students receive direct instruction in executive function, study skills, and project management so that they can better navigate the increasing expectations of independence and self-management.

Humanities & STEM

Middle School Humanities challenges students to think critically, ethically, and globally about the human experience. Students analyze historical and contemporary civilizations through an integration of literature, history, geography, politics, religion, art, and architecture. The integrated study of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics emphasizes application and real-world contexts that engage students in their learning and equip them with these 21st century skills.

With nearly 90% of Middle School students participating in at least one of the School’s over 50 interscholastic teams, the athletic program allows students many opportunities to explore an interest they want to pursue.

Relationships are foundational to
establishing a love of learning.

The partnership between parents and teachers is a vital one in the life of a student, and one that we seek to foster more intentionally in the Middle School. Throughout the year, there are numerous opportunities for parents, teachers, and students to connect and discuss any aspect of the students’ Middle School career.

During student-led conferences, students guide the conversation about their own development, show demonstrations of learning, and receive feedback from parents and teachers on plans for the future.
