Girl Scouts Meet the Governor

Feb 10, 2016 | Have Fun, Highlights, Impact, Inquiry, Lower School News

On the first Tuesday in February, five fourth grade girls from Mount Vernon’s Girl Scout Troop 13551 attended Girl Scouts day at the Georgia State Capitol.
Beginning with a scheduled photo with Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and other Girl Scouts from around the state, our own service leaders were invited to explore the main office building of Georgia’s government.
Taking a day to learn about advocacy and legislation, Girl Scouts from around the state had an opportunity to discover the issues impacting girls in our community and connect with community resources to research issues of interest to them.
The girls sat in the gallery and saw session roll call, a devotion and mention of the day’s agenda. They met the CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, spent time in the Capitol museum learning facts about different aspects of our state, and were able to see a press briefing for a House bill that passed.
And yes…they each earned a badge!
