During the week before Easter many Christian faiths remember the journey to the cross. This year the Spiritual Life Committee at the Upper School wanted to do something special for our entire Mount Vernon community. Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday our students will be posting to this blog a simple devotional and a song produced by our very own praise band. We hope you enjoy the love found in these words.

Holy Saturday

By Haley Todd
It can be difficult to sing God’s praises when we can’t see Him working in our lives. We wonder if He’s actually watching or if He actually cares. The day after Jesus died, His followers wondered this exact same thing. They believed He was the Messiah, the one who was meant to change everything… so how could He be dead? But God had a plan, as always. He knew what He was doing, and the very next day, Jesus rose again. When we go through rough seasons or we feel distant from God, there is a plan. We can trust that He will turn our darkness into life and our brokenness into beauty. Though it may seem like Jesus has disappeared, He never does. Hebrews 6:19 says that hope anchors the soul, so as we wait on God in our times of trouble, we can hold onto it. We can hope and trust that He is doing something good, and even take it one step further to praise Him in the meantime. And then, when we least expect it, He will bring life out of our darkest and most painful moments.
β€œBut they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
