During the week before Easter many Christian faiths remember the journey to the cross. This year the Spiritual Life Committee at the Upper School wanted to do something special for our entire Mount Vernon community. Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday our students will be posting to this blog a simple devotional and a song produced by our very own praise band. We hope you enjoy the love found in these words.

The Unexpected King

by Haley Todd – 10th Grade
Matthew 21:9
β€œThe crowds that went ahead of him and those who followed shouted, β€˜Hosanna to the Son of David!’ β€˜Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ β€˜Hosanna in the highest heaven!’”
Hosanna in the highest! Just as Jerusalem praised their King and made a way for Him to enter, we can also praise Him. And the best part: He’s not always expected. Certainly, the Israelites did not expect their long-awaited King and Savior to come as just a baby.
But when we don’t know what God is doing, He does.
God sees you in whatever season of life you’re in. He knows you here and now. Although you might not expect or feel worthy of His redeeming power, He is coming. Our King saves, even when we think that there is no way out of our darkness. He will turn up when we least expect it and change everything; He did it for the Israelites, and He does it for us now. Despite whatever circumstances you’re in, you can rejoice in that and sing praises to our unexpected King. Hosanna in the highest!
