1-tWYgKUzCGDp2fxk5xeZQ8AWhile Mount Vernon Upper School students know him as world history teacher Mr. Campbell, and fifth and sixth grade football players refer to him as Coach Campbell, there is an increasing number of innovators in education who know James Campbell as a Designer Teacher.
As a part of Mount Vernon’s growing relationship with IDEO, the internationally-known design thinking firm responsible for innovations like the computer mouse, James Campbell was recently identified as a Designer Teacher by IDEO’s Teachers Guild. James integrated design thinking into his classroom several years ago, and as a result, is empowering students to have a voice in what their education looks like today and in the future.
While James and many other Mount Vernon teachers are considered design thinking experts, the Teachers Guild recently asked Mount Vernon’s Institute for Innovation to be a key partner. The mission of the Teachers Guild is toΒ bring together teachers, to collaborate and solve 30 education challenges in three years. Building on each others’ ideas, the Guild seeks to amaze students, schools and the greater system with a flood of new and better solutions designed by and for teachers.
