Upon learning that The Home Depot 25th Anniversary College Football Awards would be held at Atlanta’s College Football Hall of Fame in December, MVPS seventh grader Tabitha Nagy immediately knew she had to be there. As a huge football fan, her favorite player — University of Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield — was a finalist for quarterback of the year.
With her parents, Tabitha contacted the awards organizer to obtain tickets to the event. She was pleasantly surprised when they extended an invitation for her to attend the pre-show media event. As an avid writer, she soon realized she could combine her passions to make her dream of someday having a career in college football, a reality.
While in the media pit among a sea of professional adult sportswriters, she created her own opportunity to speak to several football players, including her favorite – Mayfield. She asked him specifically about his inspiration and his journey.

“I really enjoyed coming up with questions to ask the players about themselves and was impressed with how humble they were,” remarks Tabitha. ”
Just a few weeks after meeting Mayfield, Tabitha and her family were able to watch him play, in person, at Miami’s Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Tabitha shares, “Unfortunately, Oklahoma lost to Clemson but it was still a lot of fun!”

Way to carve out a path to make your dream a reality, Tabitha! #IMAMUSTANG
