STAR Student & Teacher Award:
The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia’s highest achieving high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. To obtain the STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on any single test date of the SAT taken through the November test date of their senior year and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average. Each high school STAR Student is asked to name a faculty member who inspired their learning as his/her STAR Teacher.
Known for her service through Interact and the National Honors Society as well as her love for all things literature and writing– students and peers agree that this student is unmatched in her love for learning. Arial Strode is this year’s STAR Student for the Class of 2018. She selected Mr. Sam Baroody as her STAR teacher.

Mount Vernon Mind Award/Grade 5
Communicator Mindset, Grayson Rogers: She gives her best in everything she does. She is a great listener and is able to articulate her ideas clearly and effectively.
Ethical Decision Maker Mindset, Jack Rego: He is a rock. No matter what is going on, we can always count on him to be doing the right thing. He is an example to us all.
Collaborator Mindset, Wes Vail: He approaches each group task with an organized approach, and he leads teammates toward a solution. He accepts and includes others both in and out of the classroom.
Innovator Mindset, Reiner Guttery: He is self-motivated to solve any problem, be it for himself or others. His favorite words are, “What if….”
Creative Thinker Mindset, Dennis Norman: He will persist in thinking further about problems and issues, delving into another way to solve or look at it. You can see the wheels turning in his head as he generates responses and synthesizes information.
Mount Vernon Mind Award/Grade 6
Solution Seeker Mindset, Jack Blitch: He is open minded and willing to consider multiple perspectives before making a decision on his own. He works well with others and asks questions to further understand a concept. He is respectful, intelligent and seeks out solutions individually and as a group member.
Communicator and Collaborator Mindsets, Charlotte Bradford: She is a strong communicator and eloquently shares her ideas. She is creative in her writing and has a strong voice. She can just as easily lead or be a contributing member while others lead. She sets a high standard, but encourages teammates to contribute and do their best as well.
Ethical Decision Maker and Creative Thinker Mindsets, Noah Arnold: He is kind and compassionate towards everyone. He knows how to seek solutions creatively and has fun while doing so. We’re impressed by his willingness to step outside the box. Noah is positive no matter his partner. He doesn’t always follow the crowd but exhibits confidence and maturity.
Communicator Mindset, Elisabeth Levy: She writes clearly and elaborately, always demonstrating her understanding. She impressed all adults involved in her student-led conference. She is incredibly diligent in whatever she does, seeking to carry out all her work effectively and thoughtfully. She embodies empathy beyond her years.
Mount Vernon Mind Award/Grade 7
Creative Thinker and Solution Seeker Mindsets, Sam Worth: He never just sits back in class. He is always accepting of any feedback, is willing to share and collaborate with others, and never settles for anything that isn’t his best.
Ethical Decision Maker and Communicator Mindsets, Maggie Sims: She exhibits integrity, honesty and empathy for others. She listens and communicates her ideas clearly. She leads others by example through her hard work and determination.
Mount Vernon Mind Award/Grade 8
Creative Thinker Mindset, Ella Grace Pickering: Whether applying her artistic skills digitally through film-editing, or manually by hand-drawing sketches from Romeo and Juliet or her near-perfect replica map of the early American colonies, she always goes above and beyond to submit work that she feels is worthy of her craft. Beyond the classroom, she even works as a web designer in her spare time, which also led to a stellar ePortfolio. Please congratulate  for the Mindset Award!
Solution Seeker, Ryan Weber: Due to challenging circumstances, this young man was required to complete the majority of his schoolwork without being present for much of his class time. He took it upon himself to connect with his teachers and classmates to stay ahead of his studies, and his success is evidenced by his place on the Head of School List.
Collaborator Mindset, Avery Grace Messner: She has been praised for supporting her classmates — in addition to her teacher — by navigating through the Digication platform to create ePortfolios. Beyond Advisory, in each of her classes she is the first to volunteer as a partner-in-need, and she is ever-reliable as an assistant to her teachers when demonstrating routines and learning activities.
Fruit of the Spirit Award/Grade 5
Our first student exemplifies self-control and kindness. She has excellent self-awareness and mindfulness. Her maturity keeps her composed and ready to participate. Please congratulate Caroline Putnam for the Fruit of the Spirit Award.
Our next student exemplifies joy, kindness, and self-control. She is always smiling and radiating joy. She has a positive attitude toward everything she does. Please congratulate Caleigh Clark for the Fruit of the Spirit Award.
Lastly, this student exemplifies kindness, self-control, and faithfulness. We have never heard her speak an unkind word. She has such a calm and caring presence, supporting others and helping a group meet goals. Please congratulate Anna Katheryn Lucas for the Fruit of the Spirit Award.
Fruit of the Spirit Award/Grade 6
Our first student exhibits every dimension of the fruit of the spirit, in particular kindness to others, self-control in a dynamic setting and faithfulness in following God’s plan. He has a personal conviction towards living out the fruits of the spirit. He also embodies genuine curiosity and the heart of learning. He is always thankful, joyful, and engaged in class. Please congratulate Cole Carroll for the Fruit of the Spirit Award.
Our next recipient demonstrates many of the fruits of spirit. She is kind and joyful, as well as gentle. Often, we will see her encouraging her peers. She shares genuinely during Christian Education small groups and has begun to show leadership. In the beginning of the year, she created a lesson on loving beyond differences with a friend and followed up to present it to the MV Littles. Please congratulate Nina Brooks for the Fruit of the Spirit Award.
Fruit of the Spirit Award/Grade 7
This first student epitomizes the fruit of the spirit. She is incredibly kind, nice, and compassionate towards others. She brings so much joy to Mount Vernon every day. She is true to herself and stands strong in her faithfulness to God and her faithfulness in learning. Continue to embrace all the amazing qualities that make you you! Please congratulate Leighton Batchellor for the Fruit of the Spirit Award.
This next student is an excellent example of someone who embodies all the fruits of the spirit. He is always joyful and always, always has a smile on his face. He is incredibly generous and helpful and always willing to try. He continues to show so much maturity and growth in his self-control and mannerisms and, more importantly, isn’t afraid to be himself. Please congratulate Ben Edwards for the Fruit of the Spirit Award.
Fruit of the Spirit Award/Grade 8
This first student is well-known as a paragon of all four of the Fruit of the Spirit. He is kind, respectful, mature beyond his years, and he amazes us all with his positive approach to life. Always available to anyone needing a friend, and always accountable for doing what is right, his leadership is an inspiration to us all. Please congratulate Sutter Guttery!
Our next Fruit of the Spirit Award goes to a young woman whose infectious smile radiates joy wherever she goes. Not only is she one of the hardest-working students in the 8th grade, she is also one of the kindest, bravest, and most gregarious individuals to each of her friends and teachers alike. An epitome of the four Fruits of the Spirit, please congratulate Giahni Dubique!
