In the Upper School, students in Nikolai Ibanez’s Short Documentary Class wanted to create a film highlighting fall sports at Mount Vernon during Covid – the challenges the athletes and coaches are facing, and what Mount Vernon is doing as a community to get through this difficult time, while having fun!

Win Scott (’22), Paxton Scherger (’21), Zander Bryant (’22), and Gibson Mack (’21) interviewed both coaches and athletes on the Varsity Cross Country, Football, and Volleyball teams and documented their findings in the video below.

“At first it was pretty tough, but now it’s like a part of who we are and we just do it and get it done.” – Shannon Burnett, Varsity Volleyball Head Coach

Both students and faculty have had to adjust this fall to new Covid-19 protocols, from wearing a mask daily to having their temperatures checked upon arrival to school or to their sports practice. The Varsity Volleyball team even wore masks while playing in matches, but across all teams, Mount Vernon Mustangs are determined to do what they need to do to play, in a safe way.

Doing something you enjoy every day, I think, is incredibly important.” – Ben Potter, Varsity Cross Country Coach

While Varsity Football is still in the midst of their season, Softball, Cross Country, and Volleyball all performed well this fall, each making it to their respective playoffs/region meets.
