Mount Vernon Performing Arts Has All-Star Weekend

This weekend, Mount Vernon students excelled in Music, Theatre, and Dance as students competed and earned honors around the state. We are so proud of our performing arts students and their coaches/instructors. 

Music
Afton Mosley (Grade 8) made All-State Band for Clarinet. He will head to the Georgia Music Educators Association All-State on March 5-7 the Classic Center in Athens, GA. Let’s cheer on Afton as he represents Mount Vernon at state!

Theatre
Arden Adams (Grade 11) won 1st Place for the English Speaking Union competition at the Shakespeare Tavern for the 2nd year in a row and will head back to New York City to compete in the national competition on April 27, 2020 for the 100th anniversary of the English Speaking Union. 

The ESU National Shakespeare Competition is a performance-based educational program serving grades 9-12. Since 1983, the competition has engaged more than 360,000 young people. Approximately 2,500 teachers and 20,000 students in nearly 60 ESU Branch communities participate each year.

Dance
MV Dance also had a great weekend at the Showbiz National Talent regional competition at Infinite Energy Center. Highlights included:

Grade 3-5 Competition Dance Team received 1st Place in their category and second overall in the Junior Division.

Members of the Grade 3-5 Competition Dance Team: Brooklyn Bollier, Claire Brown, Phia Calvo, Hannah Douglas, Eleena Eftekhar, Vivienne Greene, Lydia Katz, Caroline Kincaid, Mary Laborde, Austyn Mackintosh, Charlotte McNerney, Marcella Tapia, and Madison Zgutowicz.

Grade 6-8 Competition Dance Team received 2nd Place in their category and second overall for Large Group Teen Division.

Hadley Ryan Giardino (Grade 1) earned high gold medal and second overall in Petite Division.
Charlotte McNerney (Grade 5) earned platinum medal and fourth overall in Junior Division.
Hunter Reese Giardino (Grade 6) earned high gold medal and second overall in Teen Division.

Members of the Grade 6-8 Competition Dance Team: Sage Allen, Sarah Beard, Charlotte Cloud, Hunter Reese Giardino, Ryanne Kelly, Elliot McGoldrick, Caroline Putnam, Lauren Reece, Lily Stanford, Audrey Thompson, Spencer Owens, Junie Shin, Sydney Tiffin, and Lainey Whiting.
