Mount Vernon Presbyterian has been selected to participate in an unique opportunity bringing private and public schools together to spread innovation in schools. It’s called the Atlanta K-12 Design Challenge, sponsored by the R. Howard Dobbs, Jr. Foundation. Through the Atlanta K-12 Design Challenge, schools are collaborating and connecting using design thinking as way to find innovative solutions to complex issues facing the field of education.For the next 18 months, the Atlanta Design Challenge has four goals:
#1 Build capacity for design thinking as a process for school innovation;
#2 Launch pathways to solving complex issues;
#3 Develop institutional capacity for change;
#4 Establish rich connections and collaborations across schools.Mount Vernon’s team consists of Mary Cantwell, as the building facilitator, and team members James Campbell, Alex Bragg, Katie Jones, Meghan Cureton, Tyler, Thigpen, Kristyn Anderson, Chip Houston, Emily Breite.
The team recently participated in an Atlanta Design Summit on March 21-22 in which each school shared its progress, data, and low-res prototypes of their community-identified, complex issue.

Participating schools include: The Lovett School, The Westminster Schools, Woodward Academy, Paideia School, Atlanta International School, Mount Vernon Presbyterian School, Abbotts Hill Elementary School, Mountain Park Elementary School, Camp Creek Middle School, Westlake High School, and Milton High School.
