Don’t look now, but the Mustang wrestling team is on a roll. The squad has continued it’s strong start, most recently winning a home quad meet versus Lambert (6A), Walker and Yeshiva. The team got strong performances from Tim DeShay (170lbs), Chris Smith (106lbs), Matt Lewis (138lbs), Constantine Gavalas (160 lbs), George Gavalas (182lbs), Christian Burke (195lbs), Ahmir Lee (220lbs) and William White (heavy weight).
DeShay won two matches by pin and Smith, Lewis, Burke, Lee, White and the Brothers Gavalas all went 3-0 on the day. The team is now 9-9 on the year and 4-0 versus area teams. Head coach Mike Edmonson likes the way his young team is competing early on. β€œThe team is competing with great intensity. They are, to a man, relentless on the mat in pursuit of the points, whether it is from their feet or in the referees position. The dedication and preparation that these young men have put into improving their skill and endurance is second to none. As a coach, I am excited not only by the results that they are accomplishing now, but by the promise of this very young and hungry team.”
Coach Edmonson and his staff have really gotten the most out of this young, hard working crew. The team has displayed great effort and taken his direction beautifully and that has shown on the mat. The future of Mustang wrestling appears to be very, very bright!
