Our Mustangs beat Whitefield Academy 28-0 in the first game of the 2017 season last Friday night in front of a huge Mount Vernon turnout. The Mustangs had great performances on offense led by Austin Douglas (18 car 185 yds 2 Tds / 1 rec 32 yds 1TD) and Reggie Burnette (12/21 for 144 1TD 2 INT). The Mustang defense would not be outdone, led by Eric Harris and Parker Corley with a combined 11 assists and 9 solo tackles. Colson Logue added an interception and fumble recovery while John Watson and Austin Douglas both forced fumbles.
β€œIt was a hard fought game and we are fortunate to have come out with the victory. Our team played well at times and I am proud of how they kept fighting and stayed together…I want to thank the Lord for the opportunity to be a part of the game of football here at Mount Vernon, along with our community for creating such an incredible environment for our players to play in front of,” says Coach Wayne Dabbs.
The 28-0 win on Friday capped the 7/8 football team victory on Thursday, August 24 as they beat the Walker School 35-0. Both wins previewed the spectacular performance of our 5/6 football team on Saturday, August 26 en route to a 34-6 victory over Fellowship Christian bringing the Mustangs three spectacular wins across all levels of the football program.
