MV Community Gives Gift of Life

Students in Mount Vernon’s National Honor Society made a meaningful impact in the community last week. Through its organization of the School’s annual blood drive, many MVPS faculty, parents, and students in turn provided the gift of life. According to Mount Vernon’s Director of College Counseling, Marsha Powell (who oversees NHS), the community donated 66 pints of blood–a School record. “The whole day ran well due to NHS President Ally Schnetzer’s organization and leadership as well as the hard work of many NHS volunteers who staffed check-in, information and hydration, and the canteen,” shared Powell.
Senior Joseph Martin, also instrumental in the success of the blood drive, stated, “The Blood Drive was a great testament to the cooperation the school was able to produce, as many teachers and students worked out plans to cover classes. The amount of blood we collected was outstanding, and everything went well.”
The School wishes to thank those who donated blood, as well community partners like Chick-Fil-A who provided raffle prizes, Red Cross liaison, Kristin Chiesi, and Glenn Campus Nurse Ruth Ellen Bridgers who checked on students, teachers, and parents as they donated.
