MVPS Concert Band members, Steven Butz, grade 10, and Mark Grove, grade 8, advanced to play in the District 5 Honor Band during the weekend of February 6 and 7 at North Atlanta High School. They each practiced with their respective age groups for more than 8 hours prior to the celebratory concert.
Steven Butz, Grade 10
Since fifth grade, Steven Butz has played the french horn in addition to the bugle, trumpet and piano. His favorite instrument is the french horn, however, because of its “warm mellow tone.” Steven is excited to audition for the Atlanta Youth Orchestra, soon.
Mark Grove, Grade 8
Mark went on from the District 5 Honor Band to audition at the state level and was selected as one of four bassoonists to play in Georgia’s top middle school band. He will participate in the All-State Honor Band Concert to be held in Athens, Georgia the weekend of February 26-28. Mark expects to continue pursuing regional and state-wide competitions playing this intricate, double-reed woodwind instrument.
