Bennett_Dustin_AcademicsReturning to Mount Vernon after a one-year experience as Director of Football Operations for Georgia State University, Dusty Bennett will step into the Assistant Athletic Director role, succeeding Patrick Coffield.
Originally hired as Mount Vernon’s Upper School Academic Resource Specialist and Head Varsity Baseball Coach for the 2014-15 school year, Bennett will reprise his role as Assistant Athletic Director, with a focus on operations and media. His responsibilities will include home game management, field operations, internal and external program promotions, as well as collaboration on website development and athletic branding with the Partnerships team.
“I am excited to be returning to Mount Vernon. I hope to build  many more meaningful relationships within the community. I would like to thank Dr. Jacobsen and Brad for giving me this tremendous opportunity  to help continue the exceptional growth of the Mustang athletic programs,” Bennett shares.
Prior to Mount Vernon, Bennett was a member of the Georgia State athletics staff as an academic advisor, working primarily with the football and golf programs. He also served as a graduate assistant in the athletic department, coordinating life skills programs. He was a four-year member of the Panther baseball team from 2005-08. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in art history from Georgia State in May 2008, he went on to complete his master’s in sport administration.
A native of Tyrone, Georgia, Bennett played football and baseball at Sandy Creek High School. He and his wife, Reanna, have two sons, Dustin, 5, and Carson, 2.
We want to thank Patrick Coffield for his many contributions over the nine years he has been with Mount Vernon, and are extremely proud of him as he moves to help establish a charter school in Forsyth County.
Coffield reflects, “Through my years at Mount Vernon, I have had the privilege of working with every grade level. Whether it was KidSports with the Preschool, PE and Health with grades K-6, football with grades 7-8 or soccer with grades 9-12, I have somehow been a part of each grade level and am truly grateful to have worked with all ages, as I have seen a lot of the students grow from young children to mature teens. Anytime someone asks me what is the best part about Mount Vernon, I always respond with the same answer, ‘relationships’. This will be what I miss most about Mount Vernon is all the relationships I have built with my coworkers, the parents and most importantly the students. I have seen the School grow so much since my first year and I can’t wait to see what the future has for it. Thank you to everyone for your support throughout the years!”
