Members of Mount Vernon’s Girl Talk Chapter (an organization of high school girls who mentor middle school girls to deal with the trials of the early teen years.) not only inspire one another but recently inspired many others when they created a video on what it means to be a role model. The video was so inspiring, it was selected as the opener for a recent fashion show benefitting The Manna Fund, a non-profit organization that raises money for young women to receive intensive treatment for eating disorders. Girl Talk Leader Hannah Onley, who is also on the National Board for Girl Talk, produced the video. Three Mount Vernon seventh graders, Maddie Long, Maya Munoz, and Laura Lawson Duncan, were also were selected to participate in the fashion show held Sunday, April 27 at Bloomingdale’s. At the show, organizers emphasized the importance of redefining beauty and focusing on an individual’s inner beauty. The proceeds of the show and a percentage of any clothing purchased that day at Bloomingdales, went to The Manna Fund.
