Share the Well: Toys for Tots

Dec 1, 2021 | Blog, Build People Up, Lower and Middle School

As we welcome December, holiday music is playing, gifts are being wrapped, and Mount Vernon is preparing for one of its treasured holiday traditions – the annual Toys for Tots drive.Β

Beginning this week, students are encouraged to donate a new, unwrapped toy to Toys for Tots in partnership with the United States Marine Corps. On Wednesday, December 15, the drive will culminate with a special Toys for Tots Chapel on each campus where members of the USMC are expected to be present to accept the donated toys. See the photos below from past Toys for Tots Chapels.

Toys for TotsΒ first began in 1947 and to date has distributed 604 million toys, bringing hope and joy to more than 272 million children.

As the School continues through its Year of Impact, working together to log 50,000 service hours in honor of Mount Vernon’s 50th anniversary,Β be sure to record two hours per toy donated.

To date, Mustang students, parents, grandparents, alumni, and faculty and staff have logged more than 28,000 service hours,Β officially passing the halfway mark! Year of Impact began on September 11 as an integration of service across the entire community. No matter your passion, there are opportunities to serve.Β

Members of the School community have recorded service at not-for-profit organizations like Furkids, Second Helpings Atlanta, Solidarity Pantry, Mount Vernon Towers, Mary Hall Freedom House, youthworks, and more.

During the holiday season, there are also many opportunities to serve on campus, bringing joy to the community, together.

Help from the Mount Vernon community is needed to decorate both campuses and celebrate our faculty and staff during the School’s annual holiday luncheon. Volunteering on campus provides an experience to meet other parents, feel the joyful pulse at the School, and make an impact during this season of giving.
