After just one performance to kickoff the season for MV Arts in the Upper School, the MV Allstars have been invited to two monumental theater events.

The MV Allstars, troupe 7702, has been chosen to be part of the Georgia Thespian Virtual Conference in 2021 as a Chapter Select Showcase. Their fall production of The Tempest will be presented at the conference where thousands of Georgia theater educators, professionals, and students will watch.

The Allstar’s production of The Tempest was unlike any other to be performed before at Mount Vernon.

Director of Theater Arts Clark Taylor shares, β€œI wanted to create a piece that could be performed safely, observing the protocols set by Mount Vernon. What I came up with was an adapted version of The Tempest that is performed in protective masks and… theatrical masks!”

He continues, β€œWe have these great masks that were made for us to perform in. It’s a hearken back to the days of Greek Theatre where the actors were all in masks, so it’s very kismet what we’re attempting with this show.”

The actors pre-recorded their dialogue, then acted it out, masked, in an outdoor production under the stars.

In addition to the state conference, the MV Allstars have also been nominated and selected to represent the state with the American High School Theatre Festival at the world’s largest festival, The International Fringe Festival in Edinburgh Scotland in 2022!

β€œI am beyond proud of these amazing students, our creative theatre team and especially Mount Vernon for giving us the opportunities to create brave, heart-filled, heart-felt and innovative theatre!”

Congratulations to the cast and crew, and all involved with the MV Arts program and the fall production of The Tempest!
