We are excited to share the announcement of naming The Ron Hill Field on the Upper Campus.

Whether you are new to the School and have heard about coach Hill’s legacy or you have been impacted by him in a personal way over the years, we could not find a better moment to honor him than with the installation of a new turf field in place for the 2022-2023 school year.

We are excited to share this with you and can’t wait for the moment to unveil it in the fall to Coach Hill’s family. The Ron Hill Field will not only honor the legacy of a great human that impacted so many, but it will also reflect the resiliency of this community over the last two years.

Ron Hill, a beloved member of the Upper School teaching and coaching staff, passed away on March 24, 2020. This was an incredible loss to our community, as we had an impact on many within our community. We could only wish to have a little of Coach Hill in our lives – a big smile with an ever bigger heart.

In 1975, early on in his career, Coach Hill enlisted in the US military. Brave and courageous beyond measure, he fought hard and rose up in the ranks, serving our country until 1983. Also, he was the National President of the Sigma Alpha Gamma Military Fraternity, service-minded military men achieving their highest potential both professionally and personally.

During his nearly seven-year tenure at Mount Vernon, he served as a teacher in the Upper School as well as a coach in football, basketball, and track in the Middle School and Upper School. More importantly, he cared deeply for Mount Vernon students and his colleagues, always empathizing with them yet challenging them to be better.

This year, as we celebrate the School’s 50th Anniversary through the Mount Vernon Fund (MVFund), several projects have been identified based on feedback from our community which will impact our entire student body. Replacing the multipurpose field is one of these projects.

By contributing to the MVFund, your family will make this honor a reality.
