IMG_3469As students from Kindergarten through grade 12 filed in to the Sanctuary carrying toys, games, dolls and life-sized stuffed animals, an assembly line of faculty and staff helped fill more than 20 red wagons and piled the overflow into mountains of toys.
At the all-school Toys for Tots chapel celebration, two United States Marine Corps representatives, Staff Sergeant Cherie Champ and Sergeant Erica Brown thanked our community on behalf of the Corps. “I have never seen such an outpouring of generosity,” said Staff Sergeant Champ. “What you are doing is showing your love to so many people who will really appreciate it.”
Spiritual Life Prefect Hannah Onley led the service with a prayer, Head Prefect George Gavalas delivered a personal message about the gift of giving, Bryce Fennell (grade 4), Brady Vincent (grade 8), and Derek Liu (grade 11) were recognized for being transformers, our own Praise Band played Christmas carols and special verses were read by students Ruby Turner (grade 4) and Sophia Gavalas (grade 7).
Sharing words of gratitude and thanksgiving, towards the end of the service, MVP Church Pastor Joe B. Martin praised our community, and remarked Mount Vernon students are lifting up those who might need a little extra help this Christmas.
We can be proud of our school for contributing 1258 toys this season.
