Don’t miss any live action on the court!
Varsity Boys
The new Mount Vernon Basketball program made its season debut after our boys worked extremely hard for five months preparing. We scrimmaged Class AAA Dawson County High School – a veteran program that qualified for the State Playoffs a season ago and returned ALL of their starters. With toughness, focus, grit and effort we were able to walk away with a 68-53 victory. A bold statement for our upstart program.

  • Morgan Mulrain led us in scoring with 19 points
  • Tahj Keeton pumped in 14 points /10 rebounds
  • Cam Bennett held steady at 13 points /4 rebounds
  • Marques Frye delivered 10 points / 7 steals / 6 assists
  • Evan Wilkins balanced us out with 7 points / 3 rebounds / 2 assists

Although we had a great showing vs Dawson County, it doesnโ€™t compare to a regular season game because that’s when it really counts! The nerves were there, the uncertainty was there but also, the FAITH was there. Our Men of Valor walked onto the court and delivered the first punch with a 34-17 lead at the half. However, coming into the 3rd quarter we took our feet off the glass and gave up an underwhelming 30pts to Walker. The 4th qtr was nip and tuck the rest of the way. We escaped with a 69-66 win after a vicious dunk from Tahj Keeton. Great thing about this win was the return of our guys from the football field. They wasted no time showing their value. Look for great things to come from this team.

  • Marques Frye led us with 18 points
  • Will Mitcham scored 14 points while knocking down three 3-point bombs!
  • Alex Holliday scored all 12 of his points in the 2nd quarter
  • Austin Douglas was fearless on court connecting with 7 points / 5 assists / 3 rebounds / 2 stealsย

MS Girls
The G5/6 team is participating in a new basketball league this season, and is kicking off their season with games this week, along with the G7/8 teams. With fierce dedication and commitment these girls are working hard to build the foundation for a strong program.
MS G6 Boys
Coach Demetrius Brandon is off to a hot start with the G6 Boys squad as they are 2-0 including a dominant effort against the Wesleyan Wolves with a score to the tune of 55-25. These boys play hard – focusing on their full-court press.
MS G5 Boys
Coach Pierce and crew are doing a phenomenal job with our G5 Boys squad as they are learning the fundamentals of basketball on the offensive and defensive end. So far, they are 1-1.
Swim and Dive
The varsity dive team is growing! This year the girls team added three new divers, each of whom placed in the top 10 at our first invitational meet of the year. Grace Griswold stole the show with spectacular dives that resulted in a 1st place finish. Grace is a sophomore and is already showing dominance in the sport. Senior Claire Jarrell returned to the dive team after taking a two-year break. She had great dives and finished 4th out of 16 divers. Freshman Caroline Morrison also performed well as a first year diver, coming in at 7th place.
Middle School girls swim team came in 2nd place at an invitational in Gainesville, outperforming several high school teams. The varsity swim team managed to take a 4th place finish out of 12 schools at our kick-off meet in Savannah.
