Relationships & Networks

Students are offered vibrant opportunities for learning through inquiry-based projects, local expeditions, and both domestic and international travel. These experiences enable students to examine issues of local, global, and cultural significance, fostering the recognition and empathy towards the perspectives and worldviews of others.

By intentionally integrating cultural experiences into our curriculum, we empower our students to become not just knowledgeable individuals, but equipped with empathy, understanding, and the skills to thrive in an interconnected world.

Aligned with the School’s mission to graduate globally competitive and engaged citizen leaders, Mount Vernon offers a variety of opportunities for students to engage in culturally rich experiences. By expanding learners’ exposure to global issues and perspectives, we are shaping a generation prepared to make a meaningful impact.

Through travel, immersive experiences, internships, and celebrations of cultural heritage, Mount Vernon students develop a nuanced understanding of the world, fostering empathy and honing their ability to approach complex issues as we dialogue across differences.

Cultural Heritage

Mount Vernon students are constantly exploring stories that widen their worldview. We are deliberate in crafting immersive learning experiences that seamlessly fuse cultural significance with literacy and skill development. Through MVXperts and strong community relationships, we create moments that become profound journeys of discovery. During Diwali celebrations, for instance, students don’t just learn about the festival; they actively engage in crafting traditional decorations, learning about the cultural significance behind each symbol, and even participating in dance and music performances.

Similarly, Hispanic Heritage Month becomes a time of exploration and collaboration. Through partnerships with local Hispanic community organizations, students gain firsthand insights, practicing language skills and cultural competency while forging connections. Additionally, moments of fellowship and affinity are celebrated through a series of events and gatherings organized through the office of IDEA.
