Mount Vernon families have a passion for service. Last week, The Mount Vernon community participated in The Fall Impact Service Drive. Our goal was to collect 4,000 individually packaged snack bags through a partnership with Atlanta Mission, an organization committed to helping the homeless and hungry in the Atlanta area. After three days of carpool-time collection, the community exceeded its goal by over 7,000 snacks, donating a total of 11,400 to Atlanta Mission.
To the parents that purchased snacks, students that decorated the bags, the grandparents and volunteers that helped the students pack the snacks, and the teachers and staff members that helped organize the project and drive the bus, thank you. This was a campus wide volunteer activity that could not have been done without you.
While Mount Vernon parents were unpacking the full bus-load of snacks at Atlanta Mission, one of the volunteers expressed how perfect the timing was, ‘If I took you into the room where we store the snacks you would see that we are completely out. We will use every last one of these. We have been praying this whole week specifically for someone to bring us snacks. God’s timing is always perfect.”
Outreach Prefect Cate Jacobsen helped plan this service drive after fostering connections with Atlanta Mission through a club she started called Food Pantry Club. Cate has two more Impact Service Drives planned for the year. The first, Toys For Tots, is during the winter Holidays. And the second, during the spring will be a food drive with Solidarity Sandy Springs. More details on how the community can get involved will come closer to the events.
