Interim Term
Expanding Mount Vernon’s Footprint
Launched in 2010, Interim Term is an innovative program at Mount Vernon offering Upper School learners opportunities to explore personal interests, integrate disciplines, expand their minds, and serve the public good.
In order to develop global competence, each year, Mount Vernon designs a variety of course offerings, programs, and trips that promote 21st century skills, connect learners with tangible needs in the developing world, and propel Upper School learners into genuine engagement with real world challenges and opportunities.

Interim Travel
Over the course of one week, Upper School students broaden their reach, scope, knowledge, relationships, passions, and impact during Interim Term. With the opportunity to travel internationally or domestically, our students are provided the chance to join college tours, service trips, cultural expeditions, or language immersion opportunities.
CORE Program
Students who are not participating in Interim Travel or an internship will have the opportunity to participate in CORE.
Internships
Interim Term’s Internship Program allows students the opportunity to experience real-world working environments in professional areas they may be inclined to pursue. Working closely with a Mount Vernon faculty advisor and business sponsors, students will explore their interests, learn about career options, and gain insight into vocations.
Study Abroad
Mount Vernon provides students who have a passion for learning world languages the opportunity to participate in a cultural exchange programs. Selected applicants will travel for four to five weeks during the spring semester, be immersed in a new culture while living with a host family, study the designated language through daily classes, and explore nearby cities.
Globally Competitive
Seekers and Explorers
In 2018 traveled to Morocco to become immersed in a culture unlike their own, to lead, expand their boundaries, push themselves far beyond their comfort levels, and challenge their preconceived notions. By achieving goals and overcoming adversity during this Interim expedition, students were encouraged to reach their potential and to assume meaningful roles in society.
