Lower School: Grades K-5

Your Child Will Be…

COLLEGE READY

Exploration

The Lower School learning journey blends foundational experiences with innovative practices to inspire and engage each child. Starting with questions and cultivating the skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity through project-based learning, design thinking, and visible thinking routines, students activate and apply new knowledge. Teachers build a strong foundation of the core academic skills of literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, language, visual and performing arts, and physical education. Our students are active thinkers, ask questions, explore the world around them, and make meaningful contributions.

Globally Competitive

Courage

Expeditionary learning gives our students the opportunity to explore content in an authentic environment to better understand where their learning actually lives in the world. Intersecting with a variety of professionals through field visits teaches our learners to collect data, curate artifacts, and make the connections necessary to enhance their knowledge.

An engaged citizen leader

Empathy

A student’s sense of self is shaped by experiences that are unique to each child, while common to our community. With a strong emphasis on collaborative learning, students share similarities and differences of people, places, and ideas locally, nationally, and around the world. Exploring past, present and future points in time, students advance their chronological thinking skills; learn to analyze, interpret and comprehend data; engage in research; and evaluate the impact of decisions made throughout history and in the world today.

Well-Being

We celebrate childhood by designing a school where students develop positive attitudes toward learning and friendships. With a strong focus on character development and belonging, teachers design learning experiences with and for our students that connect foundational skills to real-world opportunities and future possibilities.

PlayMaker

PlayMaker Designed to meet the needs of today’s busy families and to accommodate flexible schedules, the School’s after-school care program is available until 6:00 pm. Within the after-school care program, PlayMaker enrichment classes offer fun and engaging opportunities for older Preschool students to develop specific skills through STEM, robotics, golf, art, dance, and more.

Arts and Design

Creative confidence soars in Lower School where arts and design are integrated throughout the curriculum. Students develop personal, creative expression through maker, design & engineering, visual art, and performing arts in multiple studios.

Spiritual Life

Nurturing Christian values of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control through weekly chapel and community service, we ask questions, share stories, and build relationships. Inspiring one another through the work we undertake together, we seek to design a better world, searching for maximum impact.
