Sep 27, 2023 | All School, Blog

On a fun-filled Saturday evening, in front of a glowing crowd of nearly 300 Mount Vernon parents, friends, and dedicated supporters gathered at Rock the Block, the School unveiled a groundbreaking initiative that promises to reshape the campus. The Let’s Do This capital campaign was introduced, heralding a transformative journey that will expand the campus by an impressive 10 acres while propelling its athletic facilities into the realm of innovation that rivals any in the state.

A Vision for Total Well-Being
Central to this ambitious undertaking is the School’s new strategic plan, aptly named “The Impact Ready Project.” This visionary plan underscores the importance of cultivating a holistic and inclusive school culture that fosters total health and well-being. The Let’s Do This capital campaign holds the promise of not only reshaping the Mount Vernon experience but also of nurturing excellence across all dimensions of a student’s life.

Kristy Lundstom, our Head of School, eloquently expresses this vision: “In addition to the foundational literacies, skills, and attributes all students should achieve mastery of, the School is focused on nurturing the mental and physical well-being of students, building character, and fostering community ties. The Let’s Do This capital campaign will reshape the Mount Vernon experience and nurture excellence across all dimensions.”

Phase 1: A Grand Transformation
The initial phase of Let’s Do This entails an expansive 10-acre expansion of the campus. This ambitious expansion will encompass state-of-the-art fields, an extended track, premium locker rooms, and pristine playing surfaces. The overarching goal is to create an environment where sporting excellence and wellness coexist harmoniously, fostering a new era of athletic achievement and personal growth.

Phase 2: A Sports Performance and Innovation Center
Building upon this momentum, Phase 2 introduces a revolutionary Sports Performance and Innovation Center. This cutting-edge facility will serve as a hub for advanced training resources, immersive VR simulators, and technology-enhanced wellness facilities. With these innovations, Mount Vernon’s athletes will redefine the boundaries of their potential.

Honoring the Student-Athlete Momentum
The driving force behind this campaign is the extraordinary momentum that Mount Vernon’s student-athletes have generated over the past decade. Their unwavering dedication and passion have yielded numerous accomplishments, including their first team state championship last spring. The campaign aims to honor their relentless commitment and tenacity by elevating the School’s athletic facilities to become the most innovative in the state of Georgia.

The campaign’s launch video unveiled at Rock the Block featured Upper School athletes from every sport Mount Vernon offers. Karoline Lundstrom, a member of the 2023 State Championship Varsity Girls Soccer Team and a recent MV Alumnus, played a pivotal role as a production assistant during the two-day shoot, which included breathtaking multi-camera and drone shots. Grade 6 student, Jacob H, lent his voice to the video’s narration.

Michele Koch, the Chief Brand Officer, reflected on the project’s success, “The video project was ambitious and had a lot of moving parts. I was incredibly impressed with the way our coaching staff and student-athletes came together. Everyone arrived on time at their designated call time, and we remained on schedule during our ambitious multi-location shoot. The finished product is something to be very proud of; those are all our students, and it feels like a Nike ad! I cannot wait to see what we can produce when our current Mustangs in Training become Varsity athletes in a few years!”

In addition to the video, Kate Parker, New York Times best selling author, photographer, and Mount Vernon parent partnered with the School to capture some incredible photos to launch the campaign. The photographs reflect moments of inspiration, mentorship, and ambition. Younger athletes are paired with older athletes capturing the spirit of the campaign with a nod to the future.

Join the Transformation
With an impressive $3.3 million already raised toward the Phase 1 goal of $11 million, Mount Vernon is calling upon its community and supporters to join us on this transformative journey. By participating in this campaign, individuals, families and local businesses can make a lasting impact on the future of Mount Vernon’s students, fostering an environment where excellence, well-being, and innovation converge.

Let’s Do This isn’t just a campaign slogan; Itโ€™s a chant for our School community that will echo across all of our fields, trails, and buildings. It is the rallying cry for the students of Mount Vernon today and tomorrow!
