Welcoming Students Back To Campus: How Might We Make This The Most Exciting First Week Yet?

Mount Vernon students are always in for a treat at the beginning of the school year and this year, it was full of firsts.

Lower School

In celebration of the start of the school year, the Mount Vernon Parent Network (MVPN) hosted its first ever Lower Campus Spaghetti Dinner and Bingo night on August 11. Families were welcomed to The Lower Campus Fellowship Hall, where they enjoyed spaghetti and sweet treats from King of Pops, and played several rounds of bingo together. Renegade was on campus to welcome our little Mustangs and fun was had by the whole family. We look forward to making this event a Mount Vernon tradition.

Middle School

Middle School kicked off the school year on August 14 by welcoming new students to campus to join together in a team building event. Students had the opportunity to connect with other incoming Mount Vernon Middle School students as well as members of the faculty and administration. As students received their locker assignments and began orienting themselves to their daily schedules over pizza and additional treats, parents and guardians of new Middle School students gathered at Mutation Brewing.

Upper School

The 106 students of The Class of 2023 ventured into the wild on August 13 – 15 to Oconee Ridge Camp. This Senior Retreat’s goals were to build connections, jumpstart the college process, and creating goals for the year.

Mount Vernon Parent Network

The Community Giving and Impact Team hosted the first annual Mount Vernon Parent Network Retreat on August 10. The objective was multi-faceted. Introductions of Jennifer Brown, Director of CGI, and Jamina King-Cole, Executive Director of CGI to the Steering Committee of parents that makes up the MVPN kicked off the Retreat. In addition, each of the 14 sub-committees of the MVPN became reacquainted and shared their goals for the 2022-2023 school year. The three hours flew by as Committee members engaged in a Visual Thinking Routine focused on creating a comprehensive MVPN 1-pager and collaborated on answers to questions that Head of School, Kristy Lundstrom had.
