Preschool: PK2 – PK5

Your Child Will Be…

COLLEGE READY

Curiosity

At Mount Vernon, we know that we are educating students who will be the entrepreneurs, writers, artists, scientists, social leaders, and business executives of the future. Committed to the most current research-based practices in early childhood development and learning, our faculty build a strong academic foundation, while challenging our students to ask powerful questions, think critically, and look closely at the world around them.

Globally Competitive

Courage

Expeditionary learning gives our students the opportunity to explore content in an authentic environment to better understand where their learning actually lives in the world. Intersecting with a variety of professionals through field visits teaches our learners to collect data, curate artifacts, and make the connections necessary to enhance their knowledge.

An engaged citizen leader

Community

Seeking meaningful opportunities, Preschoolers explore all scales of community. Through hands-on service, they are active participants in serving others. Curiosity creates a natural drive toward discovery and knowledge, promoting inquiry, exploration, engagement, and empathy while sparking intrigue in the pursuit of the unknown. Preschoolers thrive when they are actively engaged, using all of their senses.

The Frontier

Helping to connect our children to the natural world through unstructured free play in a rolling, creative and innovative outdoor learning environment, the Frontier provides students the opportunity to build, create, perform and collaborate. Demonstrating abstract thinking, imagination, problem-solving, social cognition, construction, and experimentation, their possibilities, along with their imaginations, are endless.

PlayMaker

PlayMaker Designed to meet the needs of today’s busy families and to accommodate flexible schedules, the School’s after-school care program is available until 6:00 pm. Within the after-school care program, PlayMaker enrichment classes offer fun and engaging opportunities for older Preschool students to develop specific skills through STEM, robotics, golf, art, dance, and more.

Arts and Design

Hands on and hands in! Every Preschooler has opportunities to shine on stage and in the studio. Focusing on integrating movement, music, mindfulness, media, and motor development, students begin to understand how things connect as they create.

Spiritual Life

Nurturing Christian values of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control through weekly chapel and community service, we ask questions, share stories, and build relationships. Inspiring one another through the work we undertake together, we seek to design a better world, searching for maximum impact.
