2014 Prom: A Night on the River

Along with their dates, seniors and juniors experienced the quintessential high school end-of-year custom. They went to Prom.
Primped, polished, corsaged and boutonniered, couples gathered at Melanie Lane’s house for a picture party. As parents snapped away, friends grouped together to pose in every possible permutation – all girls, all boys, individual couples, groups of couples, best friends, etc.
Held in the Grand Pavillion at Rays on the River, the formal dance was buzzing with lights, music and of course, dancing on the outdoor dance floor. Feasting on lobster tails, shrimp cocktail, fried green tomatoes and creme brulée throughout the night, dancers enjoyed eating while overlooking the river on a beautiful night.
Between dance-offs, slow dances, and picture poses, students revelled in their special night out. Before the evening came to a close, though, they participated in the ultimate prom tradition. Garnering the most votes from their peers, Sean Hastings and Morgan McConnell were crowned Prom King and Queen, respectively.
A lot of hard work was put into planning and preparing for Prom, and all of the credit goes to Krista Parker and the Student Life Prefect Committee, led by Kinsey Peterson.
Upon reflection of the hours and hours of work put into one night, Kinsey says, “Prom night was great. it was so nice to see all my hard work pay off! Planning it was a lot of fun, but also stressful. It takes a lot of work and time to plan such an event – it is certainly not easy! There are always going to be things you want to do that don’t work out and things that do, but it’s important to not be discouraged by those that you can’t make happen and focus on the good. Overall, I am very happy with how Prom went, it was amazing to see all my hard work over the past six months come together in one amazing night! I hope everyone had a good time!”
