The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball Team started the season strong and hasn’t let their foot off the gas all season. As a result of their stellar play, Mount Vernon played host to the Region Tournament on Thursday, October 2 with our very own Mustangs coming in as the #2 seed.
The lofty ranking is a result of great play and dedication. This team has worked hard en route to a 20-8 record and the coaching staff has gotten each player to reach her full potential. Our Mustangs have had key wins over Strong Rock and our neighboring 5A Dunwoody.  “I am proud of this team. The girls have worked hard and improved throughout the course of the year. If we continue to do the little things right, the sky is the limit for us,” stated Head Coach Mike Edmonson.
This was the first time MVPS has earned the honor to host the regional playoffs, but if this season is any indication, it won’t be the last. The first game started at 2:00 p.m. that Thursday and our Mustangs hosted Strong Rock at 4:30 p.m. They played to advance to the Region Finals against Eagles Landing and went on to land 2nd in the region.
After beating Landmark Christian, they advanced to the semi-finals to oust Strong Rock and locked themselves into a position in the championship. They played well but sadly lost to Eagles Landing. Their season is not over, though!  Based on their strong record, these lady athletes scored a place in the State Tournament. If they win the first round, they will set off for Columbus in the Elite 8 with a chance to fight for the state title.
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Middle School Softball On a similar note, our Middle School softball team beat North Cobb Christian 14-0! Following Varsity suit, they also hosted the semi-finals, playing against Kings Ridge. With a big win, they, too are headed to their region NAML championship!!
Awesome work by all the ladies and coaches!  Let’s make sure to show our support these teams – it is well deserved!
