As students from Preschool through grade 6 filled the Sanctuary with toys, games, dolls and life-sized stuffed animals, seventh through twelfth graders, on the Glenn Campus, created a mountain of toys to contribute to the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive.
For the first time ever, our school hosted two simultaneous chapels to celebrate the season of giving. In each location, students in various grade levels led prayer, readings of verse, personal testimonials about the spirit of giving and sang songs of praise and joy.
Both United States Marine Corps representatives, Sergeant Major Larry Watson and Gunnery Sergeant Robert Fecanin thanked our community on behalf of the Corps. “We cannot thank the Mount Vernon community enough for their generosity, their giving spirit, and for being a vital, long-term supporter of Toys for Tots,” said Sergeant Major Larry Watson.
Since 1947, Toys for Tots has collected 489 million toys for needy children. In 2014, in the Atlanta area alone (18 counties) Toys for Tots collected 500,000 toys.
We can be proud of our school for contributing 1,045 toys this year!!
