Varsity football
 
took on strong opponent Hebron last Friday (8/28). Despite a lot of hard work, a tough fight and a whiteout, were defeated 42-28. Players of the game: Offensive: Ahmir Lee, 2 TDSDefensive: Alan HarrisSpecial Teams: Devon Morris (for a second week in a row, coming up huge on kick offs and extra points!) The Mustangs travel to Towns County Friday.
The Cross Country team traveled to Hampton, GA on Saturday (8/29) to compete in the Saucony Battle of Atlanta. The Mustangs sent 37 runners to Nash Farms Battlefield to run in arguably theCNp02QtWwAA7XxKmost competitive field in Georgia high school cross country history. The Varsity boys squared off against 51 teams, the Varsity girls ran against 44 teams, and the JV fields were so large that both boys’ and girls’ races were split into two divisions. The top 5 varsity boys averaged 21:16, an improvement of 0:19 over last year, and placed 44th out of 51 teams (versus 39 of 41 last year). The top 5 varsity girls averaged 25:32, an improvement of 3:37 over last year, and captured 36th place out of 44 teams (versus 29th of 31 last year). The top 5 JV Boys averaged 23:30, and improvement of 1:34 over last year, and placed 16th out of 21 teams (versus 26th of 29 last year). The JV girls averaged 30:53 and placed 18th out of 20 teams. This is the first year for and MVPS JV girls team!

Varsity Softball looks to make up for a tough loss from Saturday against local Dunwoody HS with a win tonight against Coach Kay’s alma mater St. Pius X! Come out and cheer on your lady Mustangs at the Glenn Campus field! First pitch at 5:00 p.m. The girls have a quick turnaround to face off against region opponent Paidea on the road Thursday, 9/3 @ 4:00 p.m.

Varsity Volleyball won big on Monday (9/1), on the road at Fellowship. It was a tri-match for the ages! In the first matchup against Pinecrest, the ladies had to fight through 3 tough sets to seal the deal. Great play from Andie Weathers and Grace Griffin. In the second matchup versus Fellowship, the lady Mustangs took the win in what proved to be a great second chance for the team after dropping a match to the ladies of Fellowship earlier in the season. Outstanding play that contributed to the win coming from Julaina Tyrrel and Zoe Stupek. A few words from Coach Burnette: “We are working hard every day to improve and gel together as a team.” Great job ladies! CNmBOb7WgAEhmUb The 5/6th Football team is off to a great start! Winning their game Thursday (8/27) on the road at Whitefield, 22-8 and then defeated Mt. Paran Saturday, 14-6! Saturday morning the team was lead by an aggressive offensive line that consistently blocked 7 – 10 yards down field.  Jonathan Smith, Tyler Long and Reed Collins led the offensive line charge.  The offense had several drives of 4 minutes or more, with Spencer Corley capping two drives with touchdown runs.  The defense played tough nosed, nearly perfect defense.  Highlighted by Will Palmer who literally took the ball from a runner and ran 60 yards to score a TD.  
 CN5aA-6U8AA5SL0MS Softball won 3-2 over Sandy Springs Charter Middle School on Monday 8/31! They also traveled to Kings Ridge Tuesday, 9/1 and won 18-0 in 3 innings. Shoutouts from Monday: Caroline Bernstein 1-3 with 1 run scored; Natalie Bernstein 1-1 with a walk and a run scored; Kendall Slayden started her first game pitching for MVPS. She pitched 3 innings with only one earned run! Sarah Schab closed the game, pitching the last 3 innings and received the win.
MS Volleyball Blue team defeated Pinecrest in 2 straight sets Monday, 25-20 and 25-15! The girls are demonstrating great communication and really testing their skills. Overall all players have attributed to their success! Catch Blue team and Gold team at home on September 14 vs. Pinecrest. Matches start at 5:00 p.m.
