During the week before Easter many Christian faiths remember the journey to the cross. This year the Spiritual Life Committee at the Upper School wanted to do something special for our entire Mount Vernon community. Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday our students will be posting to this blog a simple devotional and a song produced by our very own praise band. We hope you enjoy the love found in these words.

Maundy Thursday

By Hannah ZenasΒ
It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.Β John 13:1
Maundy Thursday is the day in which everything becomes real. Jesus had been proclaiming that he would be killed and would rise again on the third day, and today was the day before his prophecy began to unfold. Jesus knew he was about to leave his disciples and they would be scared and full of doubt and mourning, so on this day he showed them the full extent of his love. Jesus, the King of Kings, de-robed himself and washed the feet of his disciples, an act that the lowest of servants would perform. By doing this, Jesus showed how much he loved his disciples, that he would step down and put them before himself to show his love.
Today, remember how loved you are by your heavenly Father, and that any failures and flaws you have cannot deter Him from showing you the full extent of his love. Being a Christian is following the actions of Christ by putting others before yourself, but today, take extra care to allow yourself to be cleansed by Christ, because he wants you to know how much he loves you.
