Mount Vernon Students Invited to Perform at Women’s Leadercast Conference

Last Friday, a group of 26 students had the opportunity to perform as the opening act for the Women’s Leadercast Conference at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

The choir from Mount Vernon sang “I Believe” originally by Yolanda Adams, and were joined by soloist Latrice Pace. The Mount Vernon choir was made up by students in Grades 5 – 12 and the members included:

Prior to their performance, Latrice and the group of Mustangs worked with Director of Visual and Performing Arts Mr. Matthew Neylon and Performing Arts Lead and Middle School Theater Director Ms. Brittany Schmutzler on their song, while Dance Director Mrs. Brittany Willet Maxwell worked with the students on their choreography.

The night before the performance, the group rehearsed on stage during a dress rehearsal at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre with the producers of the event.

On the morning of the performance, the groups opening number was broadcast to more than 25,000 audience members worldwide. The theme of the conference was Courage and Bravery. In the time leading up to the conference, a group of Mustangs recorded a video to be played prior their performance. In the video, they shared their fears and how they best overcame fears.
