Mount Vernon’s 2016 Homecoming drew record crowds to watch the Varsity Football team play Holy Innocents’, participate in Lower School Fun Day, welcome the return of recent graduates and other alumni, and witness the crowning of this year’s Homecoming King and Queen: Jack Xiao and Gabriela Gonzalez after the 2016 Homecoming Court halftime parade.
Jack was escorted by his host parents Caroline and Dan Ward. During Jack’s four years at Mount Vernon, he has participated in the Business Club, National Honor Society, Young Life, and Interact Club. He is the president and founder of the Ping Pong Club and was elected president of the senior class. He particularly enjoys his math, physics, statistics, and art classes and plans to study business or statistics at Emory, Wake Forest, George Washington University, New York University, or the UC-Berkeley. For last year’s iProject, Jack invested money in the stock market and used it to support tuition payments for six children in China.
Gabriela was escorted by her mother, Jennifer, and her father, Eddie. During Gabriela’s four years at Mount Vernon, she has competed on the varsity softball, golf, tennis, swimming, and basketball teams, is this year’s Outreach Prefect and she particularly enjoys her Pre-Calculus course with Mr. Sims. Gabriela is considering UGA, Stetson, and Coastal Carolina University, where a major in communications will prepare her to be a famous sports broadcaster one day.
