Elderly Neighbors Treated to Preschool Joy on Halloween

IMG_0458What is typically thought of as a child’s holiday, took on a different perspective as Preschoolers treated new friends, who live around the corner from Mount Vernon, to joy and curiosity.
On Halloween morning, students in PreK and Young Fives were invited to go trick-or-treating at Mount Vernon Towers, a residence for active seniors. Pint-sized pirates, dogs, superheroes and princesses went on their first school field trip and were excited to participate in a parade. The residents, dressed in Halloween-themed attire themselves, lined the hallways in eager anticipation of the giggles and smiles.
InΒ true southern fashion, our preschoolers did not arrive on the doorstepΒ empty-handed. Wielding hand-made Halloween cards, the #mvlittles shared the joy of the season with their new friends, who in turn, handed out bags filled with cookies and other treats.
Faces lit up with wonder-filled curiosity on both sides of the aisle throughout the exchange as introductions were made, hugs shared and questions asked. The experience concludedΒ with a performanceΒ of “The Five Little Pumpkins” poem and an animated presentationΒ of “The Itsy-Bitsy Spider.”
As the younger generation departed, it was hard to tell who may have, in fact,Β made an impact on whom.
