Lady Mustangs Headed to Softball Regional Tournament
Mount Vernon’s varsity softball team got off to a bit of a slow start in the opening of their season but soon proved that they have what it takes to participate in the State Playoffs and, hopefully, to compete in the State Tournament.
With an overall record of 13-9 the Mustangs have beaten high level competition including Dunwoody, GAC, Westminster, Landmark, and Holy Innocence. The team has an overall points record of 178-121 so far in their season.
The team consists of four leading upperclassmen: Addie Goins, Amelia Kohl, Ally Schnetzer, and Anna Shuford. Along with the upperclassmen there is a talented group of sophomores returning to play yet another year of the varsity sport. Lauren Daniel, Helen Hudgens, Haley Todd, Taylor Leroy, and Abby Watkins all provide a helpful hand to the team. Showing growth over the season, the new freshman on the team contribute on a regular basis. Julia Sheley, Emme Watkins, Mia Whitney, and Brittany Whitstine learn from the others how important being a team is.
The Mustangs placed seventh in an early tournament, but later won the Mustang Invitational with an overall winning score of 37-18 beating Westminster, North Springs, and Aquinas. The Lady Mustangs are currently seated ninth for the single A, private school power rankings. So far the Mustangs have had a successful season and we wish them the best of luck in the region tournament!
