The Mount Vernon Mustangs Varsity Volleyball and Softball teams continue to be successful as the fall season draws closer to playoffs. Volleyball is holding steady with a 23-7 record, with Softball earning a 17-2 record.

Most recently in Softball, Mount Vernon added six straight wins against rivals Holy Innocents, Lovett, Landmark Christian, Trion, Walker, and Darlington. Both the victories over the HIES Bears and Lovett Lions came on the road, with Mount Vernon defeating Holy Innocents 14-6 and Lovett 16-9.

Tuesday night, the Mustangs hosted Darlington on Senior Night, honoring Class of 2022 players Kate Christian, Bella Dishman, Jane Holliday, Savanna Messner, and Kendall Slayden. Mount Vernon defeated the Tigers in four innings, 15-1.

In their six straight wins, the team has outscored its opponents 59-18.

At the Lovett Block Party Tournament over the weekend, the Varsity Volleyball Mustangs picked up huge victories over Marist and St. Francis. After falling to Marist just the week before, it was a sweet win in just two sets for the Mustangs.

Mount Vernon closes out their home schedule Wednesday and Thursday of this week, honoring eight seniors – Ella Ruth Campbell, Sydney Carroll, Ella Dawson, Sara McLeod, Avery Grace Messner, Olivia Ramsey, Lauren Roush, and Ellie Stalzer.

Other recent notable wins for the Mustangs include a 2-1 victory over Atlanta International and a 2-0 win over Holy Innocents last week.

Good luck to both teams as they close out regular season play and look forward to playoffs.
